If you spotted those subtle dark strips sitting flush along the window edges in a G35 build photo, those are almost certainly the JDM OEM-style clip-in guards. They sit inside the window channel and barely protrude — which is what gives the car that clean, factory-finished look. The tape-on style you find at most parts stores is a different look entirely, and once you see both side by side it’s easy to tell them apart.

OEM JDM Rain Guards — Getting That Flush Look

The JDM visors are the most popular choice in the G35 community for a reason. They’re factory-spec guards originally sourced from Japan, and they install using clips that tuck under the weatherstripping and chrome trim — no exterior adhesive, no tape lines on your paint. Z1 Motorsports is the go-to source, stocking generation-specific kits for the sedan:

In-Channel vs Tape-On: What Actually Changes

This trips people up when shopping, so it’s worth a quick explanation.

In-channel guards slide into the same groove your window travels through. Nothing touches the exterior paint. They sit nearly flush with the door frame — from a distance you barely notice them. Install takes a bit of patience, and on some vehicles they can occasionally interfere with the window auto-up sensor, though most owners don’t run into that.

Tape-on guards mount above the window opening on the exterior door frame using automotive-grade 3M adhesive. Faster to install, and they actually provide slightly better rain protection since they extend further over the window gap. The visible adhesive strip on the paint edge is the tradeoff, along with a more pronounced profile.

For the G35, if you’re chasing the JDM look you saw in photos, go in-channel. Tape-on is fine for pure function but won’t give you that flush finish.
