If you’re trying to update or reflash an ABS or ESP control unit on an Alfa Romeo 159 — chassis code 939 — reaching for MPPS is a dead end. MPPS communicates over the OBD port but targets engine management units: Bosch EDC, ME, and similar ECMs that respond to its specific protocols. Chassis modules like ABS and ESP use different communication layers entirely, and MPPS simply won’t see them.

A modern car isn’t one ECU. It’s a network. The engine ECU gets most of the tuner attention, but body and chassis controllers — ABS, ESP, EPB, steering angle sensors — sit on separate CAN bus segments and require tools that know how to address them. That’s a different handshake, different service identifiers, and often different physical connectors depending on the generation.

On the 939 platform specifically, the ABS and ESP modules are typically supplied by Bosch or TRW/ZF, but the interface into them is through Fiat/Alfa’s own diagnostic layer — not the raw flash protocols MPPS uses for engine ECUs.
