That one fact changes everything about how you approach this job.

A standard reversing camera kit assumes there’s a “reverse trigger” wire somewhere on the radio that goes live when you shift into reverse, telling the screen to switch to camera mode. The MMCS doesn’t have that. It listens for a CAN message from the vehicle network instead. Ignore this and you’ll end up with a camera wired in but no automatic switching — the head unit just won’t know you’ve gone into reverse.

Why this generation of MMCS catches people out

The trade-off is losing the factory radio and its integration with the vehicle. Steering wheel controls can usually be retained with a separate adapter module. Climate control displays, trip computers, and warning indicators on some MMCS units may or may not carry over depending on the replacement unit chosen. Worth researching the specific Android unit against the 2012 L200 before buying.

Option 4: Standalone monitor

The simplest approach, and the one that requires no involvement from the head unit at all. A rear-view mirror monitor or a small bracket-mounted screen connects directly to the camera, powered and triggered from the reversing light circuit. The image appears on its own dedicated screen when you shift to reverse.
